Cultural exchange program

'Purva' Baroda presents a cultural exchange program on June 28th 2006 in Baroda, Gujarat. This includes Bharatanatyam dance presentations by Kala nidhi - Kanpur, Purva - Baroda, & Odissi dance by Ms.Manasi Pandya. This will be followed by discussions on the development of classical dance in various Indian states.

Celebrating Dance Day

Manasi Pandya will be performing Odissi dance in the celebrations of 'World dance day' hosted by 'Purva School' on April 29th 2006 in Baroda, Gujarat -India. There will also be Bharatanatyam dance performances by senior artists 'Purva' & lecture demonstration by Guru Shri Sharad Pandya.

SMITALAY - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Smitalay is a leading dance school of Mumbai established by renowned danseuse Guru Smt. Jhelum Paranjape in 1989 in the fond memory of the late actor Ms. Smita Patil. The aim of Smitalay is to teach Odissi and broaden the concept of dance in general as a visual communicator & educator. Odissi is the classical dance style of Orissa - the land of temples, the land of sculptures. Whether the chiseled beauty of the temple sculptures inspire the dance, or the sculptures depict the dance is a conundrum. The training imparted serves to produce aesthetically & technically good dancers who become professionals and at the same time bring an awareness of our cultural heritage amongst the youth.

"Sanjukta Comes Alive"

"Sanjukta Foundation " has been instituted at Cuttack by Founder Member Mr Srigopal in January this year.Named after the Prima Donna of Odissi Late Sanjukta Panigrahi it aims to achieve her unfulfilled dreams of having a institute to train dedicated dancers.

This is no ordinary school of Odissi Dance.Mandatory it is to undergo Yoga,Meditation and Sanskrit courses for five years before the students ascend the stage for a public performance.
It was unfortunate that Kelu Babu was its head for barely four months before he decided to bid farewell to all.
Visting Professors of great reputation are on its panel. The foundation does not promote the concept of "manufacturing dancers on a fast forward mode".
The authorities conduct rigorous interviews with the student and the parents before the induction is finally done.
The Foundation intends to celebrate the annual day on 24th of January 2005.
You can reach Mr Srigopal at sanjuktafoundation@yahoo.co.in
Donations,Office Equipments,Video & Audio Equipments (new or used) are welcome for the restoration of Sanjukta Panigrahi's documents and works.

It a big leap for Odissi from the Delta of the Mahanadi to the banks of the Potomac in Washington, where the Second International Odissi Festival was held from August 29 to 31.Odissi now has a noticeable presence in many parts of the globe - one of the North American universities even offering it as a subject for a degree. Mounted by the Indian Performing Arts Promotions, Inc. (IPAP), the festival began with a reception hosted by the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Lalit Mansingh, the special performance on the occasion featuring reputed torch bearers of the three main Odissi schools of late gurus Pankajcharan Das (to whose memory the entire festival was dedicated) and Guru Deba Prasad Das, and Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. A gargantuan effort in assembling scholars like Dhiren Patnaik, senior dancers like Minati Misra and Rita Devi and performers
